Vintage TV, the new music TV channel launched in the UK, has agreed to license film footage and still pictures from Getty Images to produce videos for recordings made before MTV made music videos hip.

Starting from 1 September, the satellite-transmitted Vintage TV plans to show videos accompanying classic rock and pop songs recorded between the 1940s and the 1980s. The targeted viewers are music fans in their Fifties and older.

Until music-TV pioneer MTV was launched in the US in 1981, music recordings were not produced with videos. Vintage TV will use material from Getty Images' stock of 360,000 still photos and 8,000 hours of film to produce videos especially for those golden oldies.

The new TV channel is reported to be also using archive films from the UK public broadcaster BBC, news producer ITN, and Eagle Rock Entertainment, among others. The goal is to have produced 500 videos by next January.
