Tarantino, Il Mattatore, The Tempest and a Revamped Orizzonti At the 67th Venice Festival
27th July 2010
An expanded version of the Venice International Film Festival's
Orizzonti section, which is devoted to innovative use of film
formats, will be introduced at the festival's 67th edition on 1-11
September.
The Orizzonti jury comprises Tunisian director Raja Amari; the
Philippines' Lav Diaz; Alexander Horwath from Austria; and Italian
director Pietro Marcello. The festival's main jury will be led by
Hollywood maverick Quentin Tarantino. Darren Aronofsky's Black
Swan, a psychological thriller starring Natalie Portman, will open
the festival, while an adaptation of Shakespeare's The Tempest, by
Julie Taymor, will close the event.
A special tribute to the late legendary Italian actor/director
Vittorio Gassman (aka Il Mattatore in his native Italy) will
feature some of his most famous movies, including a restored
version of Scent of a Woman (1974), and the world premiere of
Vittorio Racconta Gassman, Una Vita da Mattatore (Vittorio
Discusses Gassman; the Life of Il Mattatore), which is a
documentary featuring rare footage of the great man talking about
his life's work.
The festival's full line-up of films will be unveiled on Thursday
29 July.
