Sea Meadow: Synopsis
A disoriented young woman with a fresh cut above her eye stumbles through the woods towards a large, dark estate. Hesitantly, she enters this seemingly empty home. There are signs of a lush life here, but the inhabitants have disappeared. Or have they? The insides are chillingly cozy: a Pandora's Box that both haunts and entices her. Electric tableaux of the past unfold around each corner as our lost woman uncovers pieces of a bone cold truth that will lead her to one final, grounding revelation.
Through a visceral, visually sumptuous sequence of events, Sea Meadow reinvents the mystery genre using dance and choreographed gesture.
The score, by mark degli antoni, is an idiosyncratic pop Mashup that includes songs by Fever Ray, St. Vincent and Bassnectar.. The nostalgic, eerie imagery of the past features the work of designers Rachel Comey, Moschino, Pucci and Versace. Part thriller, part surreal dream scape,
Sea Meadow skews convention to investigate the universal themes of memory, identity and mortality.
