Somewhere, the film by Sofia Coppola, Oscar-winner and daughter of the legendary Francis Ford Coppola, clinched the 67th Venice Film Festival's Golden Lion for best movie.

But no sooner was the announcement made when Jury president Quentin Tarantino found himself accused of nepotism. Coppola has been romantically linked to Tarantino.

However, the bickering did not detract from the jury's unanimous selection of Somewhere. The movie, about an actor's relationship with his young daughter, stars Stephen Dorff and Elle Fanning.

Spain's Alex de la Iglesia clinched the Silver Lion for best director for his movie Balada Triste De Trompeta (A Sad Trumpet Ballad). The film also clinched the Osella prize for best screenplay.

US actor Vincent Gallo's performance in Essential Killing clinched the Coppa Volpi prize for best actor. This multinational film's director is Poland's Jerzy Skolimowski. The best actress Coppa Volpi went to Ariane Labed in the Greek drama comedy/comic drama Attenberg.
