Jordan And Tallinn Celebrate European Films
3rd October 2010

The 2006 Belgian film Khadak opened the 22nd European Film
Festival, which kicked off on 25 September.
The festival, a European Union project that rotates among
different countries worldwide to promote EU independent films, is
currently taking place in Jordan until 2 October.
The festival is being hosted by Her Royal Highness Princess Rym
Ali in Jordan's capital Amman. Its organisers include the European
Union's delegation in Amman and the Royal Film Commission of
Jordan.
Directed by Belgian/US duo Peter Brosens and Jessica Hope
Woodworth, Khadak is an epic drama set in Mongolia. Its accolades
include prizes from the Venice, Toronto and Sundance film
festivals. Other screenings include recent releases from 16
European countries.
Additionally, the event will announce winners of the Jordanian
Film Competition on human rights, a joint venture with the Karama
Human Rights Film Festival, which takes place in Jordan 5-10
December.
Meanwhile, Estonia's capital Tallinn is hosting the 23rd European
Film Awards on 4 December.
This year's Lifetime Achievement will go to Swiss actor Bruno
Ganz, whose powerful portfolio of work can be seen in Wim Wenders'
Wings of Desire (1987), his portrayal of Adolf Hitler in Downfall
(2004); and Stephen Daldry's Oscar-nominated The Reader (2008).
