E1 Films Breaks the £100 million Mark in UK Box Office

Independent film distributor E1 Films, part of the US-based entertainment conglomerate Koch Entertainment, has generated more than £100 million in UK box-office revenues since it launched 19 months ago.

According to media reports, its success has been partly driven by the series of Twilight vampire movies (Twilight; The Twilight Saga: New Moon; and the most recent The Twilight Saga: Eclipse). All three, as well as Knowing (the sci-fi disaster movie directed by Alex Proyas and starring Nicholas Cage), were No.1 box office hits in the UK.

In total, E1 has distributed 20 movies in the UK since it started business in December 2008. According to industry figures, E1 has gained nearly 7% of the UK distribution sector this year, and its films have been in nearly 450 cinema theatres a week. Other successful E1 releases include Furry Vengeance and Astro Boy. Imminent releases include Red, the comic thriller starring Bruce Willis, and The Runaways.
